MANCHESTER UNITED news is coming thick and fast despite the international break. Express Sport brings you all the latest with Ed Woodward, Zinedine Zidane and Memphis Depay featuring.
Man Utd’s Woodward makes decision
Manchester United vice-executive chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly decided against appointing Jose Mourinho’s preferred director of football candidate.
The Red Devils are eager to introduce a director to oversee ongoings at the club following their turgid summer transfer window.
The Daily Record say Mourinho has pitched Lille bigwig Luis Campos for the role.
The United boss has reportedly been impressed by the work Campos has done at Real Madrid and Monaco earlier in his career.
But Woodward has declined to interview him and has decided to postpone an appointment until Mourinho leaves.
Zidane given warning
Robbie Savage has warned Zinedine Zidane he will be unable to rival Pep Guardiola for the Premier League title should he replace Mourinho at Old Trafford.
He told the Mirror: “I think Jose could win the league with those Manchester City players, but I don’t think Pep could win the league with the Manchester United squad.
“It’s all about players. They need to rip up the squad and start again. They need to add some world-class players into their side.
“That’s going to cost an awful lot of money.
“You could get rid of Jose, bring in Zinedine Zidane and they would still be miles off winning the league.”
Depay transfer claim
Memphis Depay failed at United because he made the move to Old Trafford too soon, according to former coach Cor Pot.
"I found Memphis especially a very positive boy,” he told Voetbalprimeur.
"You already saw that it was a very great talent, maybe he went to Manchester United a bit too early, and that was all too fast. He was just a basic player in Eindhoven, Lyon was a good step for Memphis. It's fantastic now.
"He keeps on developing himself - not only as a player, but also as a person - Memphis gets a bit calmer, does not do any crazy things anymore, but at the time he was a bit shy.
"Of course you had that fuss with that extravagant behaviour. That seems a bit over now, I think he's doing fine."
