Ex-Man United Star Fellaini Creates Record In Chinese Super League

Former Manchester United midfielder created a record after netting a hat-trick in Shandong Luneng’s 3-2 win at Dalian Professional FC, in his first Chinese Super League (CSL) match since recovering from coronavirus. Fellaini is now the first Belgian player to score a hat-trick in the Chinese topflight. He scored three times in seven minutes in the second half to secure the win for Shandong Luneng over Rafael Benitez’s Dalian Professional. The former Everton star scored in the 79th, 83rd and 86th minutes to put his side 3-1 ahead. The 32-year-old was treated in hospital for the virus and was discharged on April 14. The CSL season began on Saturday five months after it was initially due to start, with the competition having been put on hold due to Covid-19. Fellaini joined Shandong for a reported €12million in January last year after spending five and a half years with United. Please report any fake news or defamatory statements to

Curious Questions: How, and why, do people eat stinging nettles?

No annual event in England is more quirky than the annual World Stinging Nettle Eating Championship, held at the Bottle Inn pub, in Marshwood, Dorset. Credit: Alamy Every summer, people from around the world gather at a pub in Devon for the World Nettle Eating Championship. But why? And how? Ian Morton takes a look, and delves into the strange history of this viciously-stinging yet ubiquitous plant. It went by many names, but whether the locals called it scaddie, heg-beg, hiddgy-piddgy or hoky-poky, they avoided needless contact. In some parts, it was referred to as the naughty man’s plaything — quaint, but the ‘naughty man’ was the Devil himself and a ‘plaything’ was essentially a source of cruel sport and entertainment. In this case, the Devil was assumed to derive amusement from the discomfort wrought by the stinging nettle, considered his realm because, according to folklore, it grew wherever he and his angels fell when they were tumbled out of Heaven. Viewpoint from Sudan - where black people are called slaves

Reem Khougli and Issam Abdulraheem faced abuse for marrying each other In our series of Letters from African journalists, Zeinab Mohammed Salih writes about the horrific racial abuse black people experience in Sudan. Warning: This article contains offensive language As anti-racism protests swept through various parts of the world following African-American George Floyd's death in police custody in the US, Sudan seemed to be in a completely different world. There was little take-up in Sudan of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. Instead many Sudanese social media users hurled racial abuse at a famous black Sudanese footballer, Issam Abdulraheem, and a light-skinned Arab make-up artist, Reem Khougli, following their marriage. "Seriously girl, this is haram [Arabic for forbidden]... a queen marries her slave," one man commented on Facebook after seeing a photo of the couple. There were dozens of similar comments - not surprising in a country where many Sudanese who see themselves

China reports its highest number of local Covid-19 infections since March

China recorded 57 local Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the highest number the country has seen since it brought the coronavirus largely under control in March, according to figures released by the National Health Commission on Monday. Out of the new locally transmitted cases, 41 were found in the far western region of Xinjiang, where the coronavirus resurfaced on July 15 after nearly five months of no new cases. Sir Alex Ferguson 'forgives' Jurgen Klopp for waking him up at 3.30am to tell him Liverpool had won Premier League

SIR ALEX FERGUSON says he forgives Jurgen Klopp for waking him up at 3.30am to tell him Liverpool had won the Premier League. Manchester United legend Fergie, 78, paid a glowing tribute to Klopp after the Anfield boss won the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy for the LMA Manager of the Year. It was back when Ferguson took over at Old Trafford that he vowed to knock Liverpool "off their f***ing perch". Well, 30 years later, Klopp's heroes got back on top, sealing the title by 18 points. And it turns out the German was so desperate to let Fergie know about his achievement that he woke him up with a phone call. Presenting the award tonight, Fergie said: "Jurgen, fantastic. I speak about Leeds United, 16 years in Championship. "Liverpool, 30 years since winning that league. Incredible. "You really thoroughly deserve it. The performance level of the team was outstanding. "Your personality went right through the whole club. A marvellous performance. "I'll fo

China-US tension: Trump warned things could 'get worse' if action not taken with Beijing

DONALD TRUMP has been warned he could play a pivotal role in ensuring the ongoing tension with China remains contained to avoid the situation getting "worse." Donald Trump  adopted a strong stance towards  China  since first entering the White House in 2016, a tension which has slowly developed into a full-out trade war. With China seeing its role through the coronavirus pandemic questioned on the international stage, President Trump has been warned he could play a key role in reducing Beijing's confrontational conduct. Prof Huang Jing from the Beijing Language and Cultural University told Bloomberg: "This is the worst ever since the US led sanctions against China after the May 1989 crisis. "Whether it can get worse or not I believe depends on President Trump’s decisions. "This is very much initiated by President Trump and, of course, China responded or retaliated. "What we need now is the so-called escalation control but to do that we need both sides
