Jorginho reveals Sarri's strange superstition behind Chelsea's unbeaten run

The Blues manager's odd in-game move is obviously working though, as Chelsea remain unbeaten in their 11 Premier League matches this season

Chelsea kept their unbeaten start to the Premier League season alive with their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday .

The Blues moved above Liverpool and up to second in the table with the win achieved courtesy of a brace from Alvaro Morata and a strike from Pedro, ensuring that the equaliser Andros Townsend scored for the visitors didn't matter much come the final whistle.

Key to the Blues performance was the display of midfielder Jorginho again, with the Brazil-born Italy international - a key summer signing - dictating play and earning himself a breather when he was replaced late on by Cesc Fabregas.

Morata struck twice in Chelsea's win

The former Napoli man has assumed a key role for Blues boss Maurizio Sarri since he linked up with him again in the summer, and in fact there is probably no-one in football who knows Sarri better.

And he knows him so well that he knows all about his superstitions, including one really odd one.

Sarri performs a strange superstition

"It’s really easy to understand him you know," Jorginho explained to Chelsea TV prior to Sunday's fixture.

"The way he seems - that’s how he is. He has no secrets. He’s a simple guy. He has his beliefs, his superstitions. Everyone does.

"For example, he won’t touch the match ball ever. Even if we’re losing, the ball goes out and we need to get the ball back in play as fast as possible, he won’t go near it. No way – he won’t touch it.

"Then there are other things too, but that’s normal, no?"

Jorginho was at the heart of the win

Not quite, Jorginho, no.

But it seems to be working for the Italian coach, as his unbeaten run of 11 matches has set a new record for a new manager in their first season in the Premier League.

Whether he can keep it up remains to be seen, but don't expect to see him touching the ball soon!

THE MASCARENE PARROT

The Mascarene parrot was 35 cm (14 in) in length with a large red bill and long, rounded tail feathers. Its legs were red, and it had naked red skin around the eyes and nostrils. It had a black facial mask and partially white tail feathers, but the colouration of the body, wings and head is unclear. Descriptions from life indicate the body and head were ash grey, and the white part of the tail had two dark central feathers. In contrast, descriptions based on stuffed specimens state that the body was brown and the head bluish but do not mention the dark central tail feathers. This may be due to the specimens having changed colour as a result of aging and exposure to light, as well as other forms of damage. Very little is known about the bird in life. The Mascarene parrot was first mentioned in 1674, and live specimens were later brought to Europe, where they lived in captivity . The species was scientifically described in 1771. Only two stuffed specimens exist today, in Paris and Vienn...
