Victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday against Newcastle meant that Pep Guardiola’s were side are in need of three points against the Foxes in order to restore a one-point lead over the Reds as the season approaches a dramatic finale. Winning against Brendan Rodgers’ men was to ensure that City’s fate rested in their own hands when they travel south to take on Brighton in their final league match of the campaign next Sunday.
The title hopefuls were without talismanic playmaker Kevin De Bruyne in their game tonight against Leicester City. The Belgium international De Bruyne has missed the champions’ last two games with a hamstring problem and Pep Guardiola opted for 18-year-old Phil Foden.
Fernandinho (knee injury) was also out after missing Sunday’s victory at Burnley as Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling – both hunting the Golden Boot agianst Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (22) and Arsenal’s Pierre Emery Aubameyang (20) – were both in attack alongside Bernardo Silva.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers started youngster Hamza Choudhury after impressive performance in the 3-0 win at Arsenal. Leicester’s Super Eagles regular, Wilfred Ndidi also started the game as Kelechi Iheanacho who some years back was a player for the Citizens, was named as a substitute for Jamie Vardy who since his Premier League debut in 2014/15, scored more goals against ‘big six’ opponents than any other player in the competition (31).

Leicester City started the game brighter than their hosts as Pereira on the 11th minute cut into the box from the right and refused to go over when a desperate defender lunged a leg into his path, but rather than win Leicester a penalty by tumbling, he struggled, got into the box and hit a low shot which Kompany blocked.
Some minutes later, it was Manchester City who appealed for a penalty appeal from they thought the ball hit Evans’ hand. The referee disagreed.

City average 8.5 fouls per PL game this season but have conceded six already vs Leicester and Mike Dean is on the case

City pressured and pressured, first it was a Bernardo Silva attempt which was knocked out for a corner then came Sergio Aguero almost immediately as his header almost gave Guardiola’s side the opener. Aguero got his head onto the ball as it came in, it hit the bar then Schmeichel’s glove before flying away to safety.

Leicester have less tension-filled game for the remaining minutes and played excellently and bravely as they continued to prevent a Manchester City breakthrough till referee Mike Dean signified it was time for a deep breath, more team talk and then 45 minutes more.

The second half raved on as a Choudhury/Chilwell sandwich on Sterling landed the PFA Young Plyer of the Year on the ground but Mike Dean would still not award the home side a penalty. Leicester had their own chance as a counter attack ended with Maddison shooting narrowly wide from 25 yards when he might have passed to a free Albrighton on the right.

The turning moment would come in the 70th minute as Vincent Kompany thundered one into the top corner from 22 yards. He capitalized on a Leicester spacing to shoot from range and put Guardiola’s men in touching distance of the Premier League title for the second year running.
Eight from time, Rodgers pulled off James Maddidson and introduced Kelechi Iheanacho who once plied his trade for Pep Guardiola’s City as the flurry of substitutions by both managers ran the clock time down.

Leicester would get a final and brilliant chance as Choudhury played it through to Iheanacho on the edge of the area, whose first-time, left-foot finish is … horrendous.
While it might seemed all over Klopp’s Liverpool who welcome FC Barcelona to Anfield tommorow for their Champions League semi finals second leg game after a 3-0 defeat at Camp Nou, Sunday would be the eventual decider as Liverpool welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers in a final shot at the title while they hope City drop points as they visit Brighton and Hove Albion.
