Timo Werner faces dilemma following new Chelsea shirt number opening from transfer

Timo Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in June before arriving in England last month.

Timo Werner will have another option to consider when he decides his Chelsea shirt number, but Hakim Ziyech will also be in the fray. The German international is yet to pick a number since arriving at the club following the completion of his £48million transfer from RB Leipzig.

Werner has been at Cobham working hard in training with his new team-mates but cannot play until next season.

He jetted in for the final day of the Premier League campaign against Wolves and watched the game at Stamford Bridge.

The striker was also pictured at Wembley as Chelsea lost the FA Cup final 2-1 at the hands of Arsenal.

Tonight his team will travel back to his homeland to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League and they trail 3-0 from the first-leg.

Werner will wish he could play and try and help them become the first team in Champions League history to overcome a three-goal home deficit in the knockout stages.

One player who will not play a part in the match is Willian, who has played his last match for Chelsea.

The Brazilian is close to agreeing a lucrative contract with Arsenal in a controversial move that will see him move across London.

The move would see the No 10 shirt freed up, something that may appeal to Werner.

However, it is not the only attacking number that will become vacant. Pedro's No 11 is also set to be freed up when the star's contract expires.

The Spaniard has agreed a two-year deal at Roma despite being stretchered off in the FA Cup final.

Werner wore the No 11 shirt during his time at RB Leipzig, so that could be his preference.

Tammy Abraham already has the No 9 jersey meaning it's likely to be a 50/50 call between Werner and Ziyech for who wears nine or 10.

Mason Mount may get the No 10 shirt if he wants to switch and Frank Lampard is likely to give him priority.

Werner is likely to face a decision in the next few weeks, or even sooner if Chelsea are knocked out of Europe and Willian's transfer to Arsenal materialises.

The 24-year-old already has a close relationship with Lampard who was a key factor in his decision to sign.

"We talked a lot about the system, how he [Lampard] wants to play and sees me playing," said Werner.

"He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very good between us."
